foot retention? naaah.
I've been experimenting with flat pedals on my drop-bar bike. yesterday I rode to and from work with flat pedals and stiff-solde riding shoes. The stiffness was okay, but the sole didn't really grip the BMX pedal very well.
Today I rode with flat pedals and my BMX shoes. I had a lovely ride into town with Sweetie, where we took in the farmers market and enjoyed the sunshine before I rode back over the river and went to work. It felt perfect, fine, no problems. I can imagine that my feet MIGHT hurt on a long ride but that's probably the case in ANY shoe I'd wear. (Possible proof that people weren't really meant to ride epicly-long distance on a regular basis? You decide.)
So Sunday I will go full-bore tourist: Touring shorts, short-sleeved seersucker shirt, and my BMX sneakers.
I will look rather odd against a backdrop of lycra but I'm cool with that. Nice to have it all dialed in, though.

ooooh.
You should go for the Lake Pepin ride (though they make you ride three-speeds).
