question of the week: wanna help Portland be better?

Sunday parkways, the event based on Bogota, Colombia's ciclovia, is returning to Portland this summer with not one, but three events: June 21, July 19 and August 16.

The City of Portland's Transportation Bureau is planning for an exciting series of bike and pedestrian-centric fun that will bring neighbors and friends out of their homes and onto the streets. The routes, big loops through various Portland neighborhoods, will be closed to motorized thru-traffic; local residents needing to leave their homes by automobile will be escorted through intersections at a walking pace by monitors on foot. The loops will pass through city parks where dancing, live music and games will be set up for all to enjoy. Some of Portland's finest food vendors (including MY personal favorite, the Crepe Wagon:  http://www.villagecrepery.com/) will be serving goodies at various stops, and area bike shops will supply stationary aid AND roving mechanics to help with those pesky flat tires. In short, it's going to be a BLAST!

BUT -- in order for Sunday Parkways to be a success, they need our help.

I have already signed up to volunteer, and I am asking my readers who live in the Portland area to do the same.

You'll get a T-shirt, training and food, and you'll have fun!
I can promise you that this event is so cool, even the volunteers have a good time doing it!

So -- you wanna help out? Answer the question by signing up at the link above and I'll see you on the Parkway!
