Putting aside the unseemliness of taking pleasure in other people's misery, I have to wonder how it is that you are not negatively affected. You don't buy any products that were shipped? You don't buy anything made out of plastic? You don't use electricty?
Whoa there big fellah... What i thought was funny was that beth had a 0.00/gal sign on her main mode of transportation, which is both practical and efficient. That's why i was laughing. The transcription was probably a bit over the top, more so as I read it now, and I'm really sorry that it offended your sensibilities.
Now, as far as the big picture items you mentioned - yes, I do feel a bit smug as ride to work and for most local errands, yes, I do own a car (4 cyl), so the price does effect me. On the grid? Guilty. Plastic? Yep, hard not to in the USA, but I try to minimize it.
All that being said, I think it might be a good thing for this country to pay more at the pump so that there might be an economic incentive not to make large, inefficient vehicles which fall outside of the mandated mileage guidelines, as an example.
Finally, I'll have to say that you are welcome to disagree with me on this or any point, but please do not extrapolate to my overall worth from this one data point. Those days are over.

What a nice person you are.
